From the age of seven Jay-Lal had a serious addiction..he skateboarded sometimes for 12 hours a day, having to be prised off by his parents who often found the board asleep in the bed with him! “..it was freedom for me, it was another world where I found peace of mind. It's the adrenalin rush you get; you have to be ready all the time just like life itself!”
But one day something changed all that.

A friend of Jay-Lal's played him Michael Jackson's ‘Bad' “It was a crazy feeling, a real weird one, kinda hard to describe. I did not how to react or what was going on, I was speechless but at that moment I knew I had to make music.”

Jay-Lal taught himself guitar and started to sing and to write, he won a place at the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music where he studied Jazz Guitar. These days he says that jazz is still in his soul and the chord progressions and harmonies you find in jazz influence the production of his music. “there is such a huge range and expression in jazz, it's endless. That knowledge allows me to experiment and be creative not get stuck in a musical box.”

But Jazz wasn't enough, Jay-Lal's goal was to create a whole new blend of music. So on top of mastering bass, drums, keyboards and percussion he pursued his musical education across the globe learning to mix and engineer along the way. This journey took him from Holland to New York where he performed at open mic sessions and immersed himself in the music scene soaking up inspiration everywhere he went.

The adventure continued in London where in 2002 he met his manger and mentor Kevin Reynolds. Jay-Lal started recording new songs which were quickly snapped up by EMI publishing who flew him to Germany to work with respected industry producers such as Franz Plasa. After a few months hard work in Hamburg Jay-Lal spent time in Atlanta and NY recording more songs, soaking up local flavour and perfecting his music.

2005 was a symbolic year; Jay-Lal met Osman Kent CEO of Songphonic records who was instantly inspired by this young man with the musical talent of Prince and the honest spirituality of a Marley. Kent signed jay-Lal for a worldwide recording and production deal and work started on the first album.
Over the past year Jay-Lal has completed the album, a haunting, mesmerising and unique blend of RnB. He's also performed live gigs across the globe including performances at Popkomm, Berlin, MTV UK, CNN, Manchester Live and supporting Black Eye Peas on their tour of Turkey.
Work is currently underway on the video and European tour so keep checking the site for tour dates.

Jay-Lal speaks about his music….Dirty Mind: A very close friend of mine got married but after six months her husband beat the shit out of her.... I could not do anything and she was trapped in that marriage because of her culture.. so I wrote this track for her and all women in that position all over the world today... Moods: I was listening to music one day, my material, I thought at that time it sounded crap and my life was not going forwards. And then the next day I heard I had been offered a deal from EMI Publishing World wide .. so I wrote Moods that day and I then realised that our moods change from day to day and never to give up on our dreams
In Love With Music: I was chilling with legendary bass player Pino Paladino in my London studio and we where listening to almost ten hours of music on his Ipod including his new recordings .. I was so inspired by that time spent with him..
